The iPhone 16 is just around the corner and Apple seems to be very confident about how it will perform. iPhone15 was a relatively big step due to USB-C, but the company believes Apple Intelligence will be a more attractive reason to upgrade.
For example, Apple has reportedly ordered components for nearly 90 million iPhones, compared to 80 million last year. Interestingly, component suppliers themselves expect disappointing returns for 2024, as they believe AI is not a sufficient reason to upgrade to a iPhone16.
As it stands now, I don’t think Apple’s approach to AI is impressive enough to justify a modest upgrade in hardware either. Bloomberg’s Apple insider Mark Gurman says Apple Intelligence is underwhelming compared to Gemini. It doesn’t help that not only the iPhone16 If the device launches without Apple Intelligence, it will not receive all of the announced features until sometime next year.

If an entire region, responsible for so much revenue, doesn’t get the most promising feature of Apple’s new smartphone, why should it get one at all? Not to mention the fact that Apple’s dispute with the EU has already started to crumble the walls around Apple’s garden. iPhone16 will be a completely different phone in the EU.
Apple has always made solid phones, even if many of the company’s decisions remain controversial. There is no doubt that the iPhone16 will prove to be one of the best phones you can buy today.
But will it be enough to meet Apple’s expectations? Or will Apple have to accept poor sales like with the Apple Vision Pro?
