Houston, TX – (August 29, 2024) – ASCENDO Immersive Audio GmbH – known for its expertise in subwoofer design – announced today that it will introduce two new subwoofers at CEDIA Expo from September 5th to 7th at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver. In Sound Room 4 (Seymour-Screen Excellence) ASCENDO’s new stunning subwoofer – The28 SUB SQUARED PRO PASSIVE ($30,000 MSRP) – will be unveiled, which redefines bass in home theaters with its radical design. In ASCENDO’s Sound Room 3, the company will introduce the low-profile The16 SUB PRO PASSIVE ($5,800 MSRP), which offers a perfect balance of price, power and performance and produces excellent bass.
The radical design of The28 SQUARED subwoofer redefines bass for home theaters
The inspiration for The28 SQUARED subwoofer came from a conversation between Geoffrey Heinzel, Co-Managing Director of ASCENDO, and Arnaud Laborie, CEO of Trinnov, about new ways to improve bass performance in small rooms.
After extensive research and experimentation, ASCENDO developed a 28-inch sandwich membrane made of multiple layers of Rohacell and advanced composite materials. With a membrane area equivalent to a 32-inch subwoofer, The28 pushes the boundaries of what is possible in low frequency sound reproduction, delivering the highest performance in the smallest space.
“This isn’t just another subwoofer; it’s a bold leap forward in audio engineering designed to deliver an unparalleled bass experience,” says Heinzel. “It effortlessly reproduces single-digit infrasonic frequencies, delivering bass you can feel in your bones. At the same time, it can extend well beyond the LFE cutoff frequency of 120 Hz, serving as the ultimate kick woofer. We packed a tremendous amount of power into the motor structure, giving it the strength needed to accelerate the diaphragm, motor mass, and coupled air mass at lightning speed. The result is a subwoofer that produces a perfect planar wavefront with high efficiency, ultra-high power handling, and very low system Q. The flat roll-off combined with the ultra-dynamic response means that every sound – from the subtlest whisper to the most intense action scene – hits with a natural speed, attack, and impact that other woofers simply can’t match.”
The28 is a sound powerhouse in an unexpected and elegant housing. With a width of 80 cm, a height of 100 cm and a total depth of only 30 cm (with a special option to build the housing flat to 20 cm), it fits perfectly even in demanding installations.
The16 SUB PRO PASSIVE: The powerful subwoofer for small to medium-sized rooms
Building on the enormous success of its active 16-inch subwoofer, ASCENDO presents the next stage of development: The 16 SUB PRO PASSIVE.
Designed for audiophiles and home theater enthusiasts who demand only the best, this compact design offers the ideal combination of power, precision and size.
Every component of The16 has been carefully selected to deliver the best possible sound. The Rohacell carbon sandwich membrane is one of the most advanced materials available, offering exceptional strength and lightness. The surround is made from Santoprene, a high-excursion material that is lighter than rubber and offers higher sound pressure and better control. “This allows for tremendous air movement despite the subwoofer’s compact size, ensuring that every note, rumble and explosion is felt with incredible intensity,” says Heinzel.
Designed to integrate seamlessly into an existing system, The16 is a great audio upgrade. With a power handling of 1500W RMS and even higher peak power, The16 is designed to work seamlessly with the most powerful amplifiers.
By removing the electronics compartment and using top-of-the-line neodymium magnets instead of traditional ceramic magnets, The16 packs tremendous power into a compact package – just 18.5″ wide x 18.5″ tall x 11.6″ deep (47 x 47 x 29.5cm). The16’s compact form factor makes it ideal for tight spacing in bass arrays, whether you’re using Trinnov WaveForming, dual bass arrays, single bass arrays, Dirac ART, or other bass reinforcement systems.
