Gay stars Andrew Scott and Greta Lee have signed a contract to star in a new science fiction romance film.
Scott, recently seen in a spooky gay tearjerker We are all strangersand Lee, who rose to new heights of fame last year thanks to her performance in Celine Song’s Oscar-nominated drama Past livesjoin forces for My notes on Mars.
According to Deadline, they will play Sam and Margot Fogel, who are going through a particularly difficult time in their marriage.
While hiking with friends, Margot, a young scientist, disappears. Weeks later, on the day of a memorial service planned by Sam, she reappears, but is irrevocably changed. Although the circumstances are mysterious, he sees it as an opportunity to rekindle their relationship.
The film will be directed by Hungarian filmmaker Lili Horvát. Shooting is scheduled to begin early next year in Budapest and Vienna.
My notes on Mars is “a story about the labyrinthine human psyche, about the ever-changing faces of love,” said Horvát. “Starting a marriage over again, rediscovering the other person, falling in love again – our story is about the fulfillment of this impossible wish.”
She further described the collaboration with Ripley Stars Scott and Lee were an incredible honor.
“(I’m) particularly drawn to characters who dare to make surprising, unconventional choices in both their personal and professional lives,” she added. “I think that’s true of Greta and Andrew too.”
Horvát, best known for her 2020 Hungarian feature film Preparations for a time togetheris writing the screenplay himself and will co-produce the film with the help of, among others, Call me by your name‘s Emilie Georges and Naima Abed.
Lee’s performance as Nora Moon in Past lives The film received critical acclaim last year and the star was the subject of many Oscar considerations. In the end, however, she was not nominated, but the film received nominations for Best Original Screenplay and Best Picture.
Scott’s performance in We are all strangers received equal acclaim and the star received numerous award nominations, including a Golden Globe.
He is also nominated for the Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or Anthology or a Movie for his role in the Netflix thriller RipleyThe awards ceremony will take place on September 15th.
