Freddie Noe, the 8thth Generation Master Distiller from the famous Beam family of The James B. Beam Distilling Co. recently announced the release of a new Little Book series with the first Little Book, “The Infinite: Edition 1” Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. This is the first in a new series that blends liquids from different bottlings to create an Infinity series.
Little Book is the creation of Freddie Noe, master distiller at Fred B. Noe Distillery. The name “Little Book” comes from Freddie’s childhood nickname, which he received because he shared many traits with his grandfather, Frederick “Booker” Noe II. His grandfather took up the distillery torch from his uncle, Jim Beam’s fifth-generation master distiller, T. Jeremiah “Jere” Beam, who had no children of his own in the 1960s, cementing the legacy of the Noe family, which has since grown into one of the biggest names in whiskey.
The small book “The Infinite: Edition 1” is inspired by the 200-year history of Beam and Noe whiskey production. The current master blender of the Fred B. Noe distillery on the Clermont campus of the James B. Beam Distilling Co., Freddie Noe, created this bottling by blending whiskeys from different generations of distillers in his family. He took liquid from barrels that his father Fred Noe and grandfather Booker Noe once filled. The “Infinite” blend is the story of the Noe and Beam families in one bottle.
“My father and I are fortunate to work side by side as master distillers, and I know he always dreamed of doing this with his own father, my grandfather Booker,” said Freddie Noe, 8th Generation Master Distiller. “This new series is a tribute to that dream and inspired the first edition of the Little Book ‘The Infinite’, a cross-generational liquid that will form the basis of all future releases. Once a year I’ll be bottling some of them for the world to taste. So, enjoy this whisky today and come back in a year to experience its next evolution.”
According to the manufacturer, the Little Book “The Infinite: Edition 1” contains the following liquids:
- Booker Noes Component: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, aged 20 years
- Fred Noe’s Component: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, aged 14 years
- Freddie Noe’s Component: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, aged 7 years
- Common family component: Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, aged 8 years
Typically, using whisky from different casks simply results in a blend. However, new whisky is added to the mix each year, making this blend a perpetual blend similar to the solera system used in sherry making but often adopted by rum and whisky makers. The main difference is that the flavor of this “infinite” blend does not attempt to achieve a uniform taste, but is constantly evolving, becoming more like the infinite bottles made by enthusiasts. The initial blend sets the tone for the Little Book Series, but each year there will be a new chapter that changes the overall profile.
Infinity bottles are Created by blending whiskies in a single vessel, with new whisky being added to the bottle as it is poured so that it is always full, creating an ever-changing flavour profile.
The small book “The Infinite: Edition 1” will be available in limited quantities nationwide in the USA. MSRP: $199.99 For more information on where to buy and availability, visit Little Book’s website.
