The dreamy new track is the singer, actress and TikTok star’s first solo release since 2023
Addison Rae has revitalized her pop career with “Diet Pepsi,” her first solo release since last year. It also marks Rae’s first official release on Columbia Records.
The dreamy new song lets Rae channel Born to DieLana Del Rey from before 1992. It’s a love song full of nostalgic imagery that focuses on young love. “When we’re driving in your car, I’m your baby (so sweet)/Losing all my innocence in the back seat,” she sings in the chorus.
A video released alongside the track’s debut, the black and white video features Rae sitting in the passenger seat and is also seen squishing a banana split with her feet, feeding her driver/love cherries with her toes, and draped in the American flag.
Rae was part of an early wave of viral creators on TikTok, first posting dance videos on the platform in 2019. She launched her music career in 2021 with the song “Obsessed,” released through Sandlot Records. That same year, she made her film debut in Netflix’ He is the very besta remake of the 1999 film One of a kind. Last fall she played the lead role in Eli Roth’s slasher film thanksgiving.
After “Obsessed,” Rae began to announce more music. Song snippets went viral online and Rae eventually released her debut EP AR. The bubblegum-pop collection featured writing and production credits from Rami Yacoub, OzGo and Alexander23, as well as a guest appearance from Charli XCX on the song “2 Die 4.” Rae returned the favor this year by becoming a key part of XCX’s brat Rollout, appeared during the British star’s Boiler Room set and was later featured on “The Von Dutch Remix,” produced by AG Cook. The pair performed the song live during XCX’s live show in Los Angeles last June.
