David Alan Little, a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on August 6, 2024 in North Carolina after a short illness.
David was born on March 7, 1948 in Newport News, Virginia to Norma Jeanne and Jack Little. He lived most of his life on his family farm in Pons near Smithfield, Virginia before moving to Mebane, North Carolina in 2016 to be near his daughter. After moving, he remained connected to his Virginia roots and his lifelong friends and neighbors.
David graduated from Smithfield High School in 1966, received an associate degree from Wingate College, and also attended the University of Richmond. After working for several years in the family Gas & Appliance Service business, he worked for Smithfield Foods until his retirement.
David loved life and made friends wherever he went. His sense of humor and quick wit were his trademarks, but he also had a heart and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.
David loved sports and was an avid fan of NASCAR racing, the Atlanta Braves and the Duke Blue Devils. He also loved the outdoors, especially fishing on the beaches of the Outer Banks of North Carolina and the Virginia coast. He was fortunate to witness the many sporting successes of his grandchildren, whom he loved very much.
He is survived by his daughter Lindsay Little Westbrooks (Jeff), his grandchildren Jacob Howard (Whitney), Hunter Westbrooks (girlfriend Avery Griggs), Tyler Westbrooks and his great-grandson Riley Howard, all of Mebane, North Carolina. He is also survived by his sisters Bobbie Mason (Don) of Roswell, Georgia, Sally Turner (Brad) of Columbus, Georgia, his aunts Betty Duncan and Sally Riley and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Before David, his parents and his four-legged companion Buddy died.
The family will hold a private burial at Mill Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery in Virginia. A memorial service for his life will be held at a later date in Smithfield, Virginia.
Rich & Thompson Funeral & Crematory in Graham, North Carolina, is handling arrangements. Fond memories and condolences to the family may be shared at richandthompson.com.
