Chappell Roan has achieved her first number one album in the UK with “The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess” – almost a year after its release.
The album was first released last September. While the Missouri pop singer’s long-awaited debut LP performed well in the US charts when it first hit, its impact in the UK was less pronounced.
But Roan’s career has soared in recent months, with the album climbing three places to number one in the official UK album charts, just ahead of Charli XCX’s “Brat”, Taylor Swift’s “The Tortured Poets Department” and Billie Eilish’s “Hit Me Hard and Soft”.
Her increased popularity is due in part to the huge worldwide success of her single “Good Luck, Babe!” as well as the support slot she secured on Olivia Rodrigo’s major “Guts” tour.
In addition, to coincide with the album’s upcoming anniversary, a series of limited vinyl pressings of “The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess” have just been released, further fueling the album’s chart success.
Around the time of its release, Roan’s debut album received a glowing four-star review from NMEwith Hannah Mylrea describing it as full of “blatantly funny anthems”.
“Sharp pop moments shine brighter than some of the weaker ballads that fill the long track list,” it said. “But ‘The Rise And Fall Of A Midwest Princess’ is a demonstration of Roan’s bold and brazen pen, juxtaposing searing revelations alongside some deliciously cheeky choruses.”
The singer recently made headlines with her huge performance at Lollapalooza 2024 – and may have made history.
Although it is impossible to confirm the exact number of people who saw Roan’s performance at Grant Park, a Lollapalooza spokesperson confirmed to CNN that her set was “the biggest daytime set we’ve ever seen. It was a magical moment that became part of Lolla’s DNA.”
Two sources close to Roan and Lollapalooza also reported CNN that Roan’s performance rivals most headliners in terms of attendance and is possibly one of the most watched Lollapalooza performances of all time.
Back in March, Roan announced a series of shows in the UK and Europe this year. The show kicks off in Berlin on August 31st. She will then perform in Paris, France and Amsterdam, Netherlands before touring the UK and Ireland. She will finish her concert at the O2 Brixton Academy in London on September 24th before rounding off the year with a series of performances in America.
The full list of shows can be found here. Remaining tickets for the UK and European shows can be found here and for the US shows here.
Meanwhile, a merchandise cap for the Kamala Harris-Tim Walz campaign made headlines because it resembled a Chappell Roan article about the debut album.
