During a recent appearance on Great Company with Jamie Laing, Adam Lambert talked about his first kiss with a girl.
“It was in a car. And of course I was excited,” the Queen singer recalled. “It was still exciting, it was still physical contact. I was so repressed. I thought: ‘My heart rate is rising, I’m sweating!’ And then there was this thought: ‘What if she’s going to have sex with me?'”
Lambert continued, “But on the other hand, I thought, ‘She’s Mormon, so everything’s fine between us. We can just make out, that’s great.’ It’s a perfect situation. And actually, one of the girls I was with, I found out much later that she was a lesbian. It turned out that she was a lesbian. I thought, ‘Well, that makes perfect sense!’ We were safe for each other.”
Lambert has become open about sex in recent years.”There is less and less shame in sex than there is’s ever,” the rocker said in a phone call with GRAMMY.com last month. “We are more mainstream than ever before – there is more with social media and (Breaks) other Types of media on the Internet.”
He added: “And that’s really exciting. ‘Caused Sex sucksing great. And healing, and wonderful, and exciting. It is our human right to explore our sexuality, and I see that more and more people feel freer in doing so.”
In June, Adams’ documentary Out, Loud and Proud aired on ITV1. It celebrates queer artists such as Freddie Mercury, Elton John and George Michael while discussing the prejudice they faced. “They don’t usually feel comfortable talking about Freddie’s sexuality on camera – they respect his privacy. But we found a way to talk about it respectfully,” Lambert said of his conversation with Brian May and Roger Taylor about Mercury.
Lambert also noted, “I always try to honor Freddie. Everything I do on stage is a tribute to him. I’m honored that they felt comfortable with me and were open to talking about their experiences with Freddie and his experiences as a queer man at a time when it was taboo to talk about it publicly.”
The singer has no dates with Queen yet for this year. Lambert will make his Broadway debut as emcee in the revival of “Cabaret.” Auli’i Cravalho will also play Sally Bowles. They will begin their roles on September 16 and remain until the end of March.
