LAKE CHARLES, Louisiana (KPLC) – The hot and dry weather will continue this weekend, but at least the humidity will be more bearable for a few days.
We’re not expecting any changes to the hot and dry weather for at least the next few days. This means that highs away from the coast will be back to 35 degrees on both Saturday and Sunday. With the usual summer heat, it’s still advisable to drink plenty of water outside this weekend. However, the air won’t be quite as humid as it was earlier in the week, and the heat index will be between 38 and 40 degrees in the afternoon. Rain is also very unlikely this weekend.
It will take until next week to see any potential changes. The high pressure system aloft that has been bringing heat will likely stay in place, so we’ll be hot too. One difference, however, is that humidity could start to rise again early next week, and that could be enough to produce a few isolated showers or thunderstorms each afternoon. So we may need to keep a closer eye on the skies until then, although we’ll probably still see plenty of sunshine and hot temperatures.
In the tropics, we are monitoring a low pressure system in the eastern Atlantic that may slowly develop as it approaches the Lesser Antilles early to mid-next week. It certainly poses no threat to SWLA at this time as it is several thousand miles away. But we will be watching the tropics closely as we expect significantly more activity there in the coming weeks.
