KANSAS CITY, Missouri (KCTV) — Unusually cool and fall-like weather continues this week, with new initial wet weather warnings in place as some students return to school next week.
This was a surprisingly cool day for August. In fact, the morning low of 54 was a record. The record for the coolest afternoon high of 73 is also in danger of being broken. This is really making us feel like it’s October.
Pleasant temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees are expected in the evening, and isolated light rain showers cannot be ruled out. The lowest temperatures overnight will fall to just under 15 to 20 degrees, which again is close to record temperatures.
Saturday morning will start cool and cloudy, with 15 degrees and a 20% chance of rain. The afternoon will be a real treat for the outdoors, with partly cloudy skies and highs around 24 degrees.
Sunday will see temperatures warmer than the day before, with a slightly higher chance of rain at 30%. Most outdoor spaces will probably still be OK, but a brief shower could be in the forecast.
Heavy rain is expected late Sunday evening and Monday morning. We warn you first that this may affect morning school traffic and school start times. The afternoon looks drier.
There is also a good chance of rain and thunderstorms on Tuesday, so an early warning with an initial alert is in place to indicate the potentially wet weather.
From the middle of next week, the typical August heat will return, with occasional showers throughout much of the week.
