There’s no denying that the Halo series is one of the most iconic video games ever, especially because it gave us Master Chief himself.
First launched in 2001 as halo: Fight involved for the original Xbox, the Bungie title set the stage for all subsequent FPS games.

Over the next 20 years, the Halo series went from strength to strength, although some fans reported a decline in quality after Bungie handed over the reins to 343 Industries.
In recent years Halo Infinite became the newest title to hit the market in 2021 and was nevertheless well received despite mixed reviews.
Now with the waiting for Halo7 in full swing (although some fans believe it may never happen), it’s worth looking back at the time before Halo.
Before work on Halo began, Bungie released Marathon Infinity in 1996, followed by two more titles, creating a trilogy.
The Blood Tides of Lh’owon campaign offers players 20 levels to complete in solo or co-op mode, with the usual FPS hallmarks such as multiple enemy types and weapons to choose from.
If you missed the trilogy originally, which is understandable since it was released for Mac, then you’re in luck because it’s now out on Steam as Classic Marathon Infinity.
The trilogy was recreated in a homebrew engine by the team at The Aleph One and released continuously on Steam throughout the year, with the first part coming out in May and the second last month.
“We are very supportive of the Marathon community and Aleph One’s commitment to bringing the original Marathon to PC, Linux and Mac for everyone to experience, with cross-platform multiplayer play,” Bungie said in a statement.
“This is a true homage to the original game!”
