Just a few days before the deadline, Liverpool have experienced a new upswing in their transfer market.
The Reds made slow progress this summer and failed to make a single new signing until June and July.
But August is also drawing to a close and Liverpool have made their move. Giorgi Mamardashvili was the first to arrive. He arrived on Tuesday before being loaned out to Valencia again.
Then on Wednesday came the big news: Liverpool have agreed to sign Federico Chiesa from Juventus.
It’s not an expensive transfer from the Reds, but it’s an exciting one, and after Chiesa was spotted preparing to fly to Liverpool, attention now turns to his arrival at the AXA training centre.
What number does Federico Chiesa currently wear?
It’s always exciting when Liverpool are about to announce a new signing, and after missing out on that joy all summer, Reds fans are now rightly having their moment.
The air traffic controllers are on the move and the excitement is reaching delirium. Only the transfer market can have this effect.
The most important thing, of course, is how much Chiesa can help Liverpool on the pitch. The 26-year-old has a lot to prove in many ways and it will be interesting to see how he fits in.
But before the serious business begins, Chiesa will first go through all the fun aspects of welcoming him to his new club.

A big part of that will be seeing what number the Italian will choose. Unlike in recent summers, Liverpool’s big numbers are largely taken.
Chiesa has worn the number 7 shirt for Juventus for the past two seasons, but it currently belongs to Luis Diaz. The Colombian will not give it up and nor should he.
Chiesa has worn the number 14 shirt for his country for the past three years, and with that position vacant since Jordan Henderson’s departure in 2023, it could well be one to keep an eye on.
What other options does Chiesa have?
While we bet 14 looks the most likely, it’s not the only number Chiesa has worn before.
The winger wore the number 25 when he made his breakthrough as a young player at Fiorentina, and that number is also currently empty in Liverpool’s squad.
Since the departure of another European champion – Pepe Reina – in 2012, no one has worn the number 25 for the Reds.
The last option for Chiesa is perhaps the most unlikely. But the Italian wore the number 22 when he originally joined Juventus in 2020.
Calvin Ramsay wears this shirt for Liverpool but is on loan for the season. If Chiesa wanted it, it seems at least possible that Calvin would give it up. All good options, let’s wait and see!
