Prime Video’s top 10 has been a bit static in recent weeks, with films like Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning and The Beekeeper refusing to budge from the top spots. These popcorn action flicks are definitely worth watching, but they’re not the only gems on the streaming service’s list of most-watched films.
But be warned: There are also a few flops in Prime Video’s top 10 that really don’t deserve that much attention from subscribers. Yes, we mean “Jackpot!” and “Night Swim”; those films have a rating of 31% and 20% on Rotten Tomatoes, respectively.
To help you catch the highlights and not waste your precious movie time on a disappointment, I’m selecting the very best of the Prime Video Top 10 below. One final note: This article is based on the Prime Video Top 10 as of 11:00 a.m. ET on Wednesday, August 28.
Best movies in the Prime Video Top 10
“21 Jump Street” (2012)
Watch on
In the early 2010s, Hollywood seemed obsessed with rebooting just about every faded franchise it could get its hands on, so when a new film adaptation of the ’80s cop series 21 Jump Street was announced, I guess I wasn’t exactly thrilled. But what we ended up with was one of the funniest, freshest comedies of the last 15 years. It also has a delightfully meta streak that pokes fun at its own status as a pretty questionable reboot.
Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum prove to be a fantastic comedic duo as low-level patrol officers sent undercover at the local high school to track down the supplier of a new synthetic drug. Back in class, they become boys again, but quickly discover that school rules have changed and what was cool in their day is no longer so hot. Starring Brie Larson, Dave Franco, Ice Cube, Ellie Kemper, Jake Johnson and Nick Offerman, 21 Jump Street is a consistently funny comedy with a real underdog spirit.

“Interstellar” (2014)
Watch on
Interstellar is one of those rare films that I never get bored of, no matter how many times I’ve seen it. Hell, just writing about it now makes me want to rewatch some of my favorite moments (and you can be sure I’ll be cranking up the film’s iconic score for the rest of the day). It’s arguably Christopher Nolan’s most ambitious work, and it’s practically guaranteed to send shivers down your spine at its most visually stunning and emotional moments.
Set on a future Earth, devastated by global crop destruction following a massive dust storm, scientists must accept that the planet is on its way to becoming uninhabitable and the damage is irreversible. To prevent the total extinction of humanity, a NASA mission is launched to find a new home. Reluctant pilot Cooper (Matthew McConaughey) leads the team selected for this important task. Their epic journey takes them through a wormhole and across the vast galaxy in search of a place humanity can call home.

“The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” (2001)
Watch on
The entire Lord of the Rings trilogy (and the companion The Hobbit trilogy) was added to Prime Video this month, and that has sparked a passionate debate among the Tom’s Guide editorial team about which of these iconic fantasy films is the best. For me, there’s only one answer: the first film is the clear choice. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring sets the stage for the entire trilogy, introducing viewers to a compelling cast of characters and a fantasy world that is completely immersive.
Based on the masterpieces of author JRR Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings really needs no introduction. It’s one of the most iconic film series imaginable, but if you’ve been living in a hobbit hole for the past 20 years, The Fellowship of the Ring begins with young Frodo Baggins (Elijah Wood) in possession of a ring of immense power and tasked by the wizard Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen) to destroy it in the fires of Mount Doom. This sets off a truly epic quest that pits Frodo and his allies against the forces of evil desperate to stop them.
