Maggie King ’83, a valued data manager on the University Advancement Team at the University of St. Thomas in Minnesota, died August 20. King, who worked at the university for more than nine years, fought bravely against brain cancer after her diagnosis on May 11, 2023.
Born Margaret Culligan on February 10, 1961, King was a standout athlete on the women’s track and cross country teams as a student at St. Thomas University. As an employee, she could often be seen jogging around campus during her lunch break.
“Maggie was a long-time colleague and one of the most cheerful, kind, warm-hearted people you could imagine,” said Jennifer O’Brien (graduated 1997, MBA 2001), St. Thomas’ director of annual giving, who worked in the same department as King. “She was truly committed to our students and was so kind to everyone. We miss her presence in this office so much.”
King is survived by her beloved husband of 40 years, Paul; her children, Jenny (Andrew) Rowland, Daniel, Courtney (Riley) Schulte and Kevin; six grandchildren; five siblings; and many nieces, nephews, friends and relatives. She was predeceased by her parents, Nancy Culligan and Robert Culligan.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, August 28th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at O’Halloran & Murphy in St. Paul and again on Thursday, August 29th from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in St. Paul.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 29th at 10 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church in St. Paul.
