Nassau Candy, the parent company of Counselor Top 40 Supplier NC Custom (asi/44900), helped raise a record $1.5 million for Sunrise Day Camp – Long Island during the charity’s golf classic earlier this month.
Sunrise Day Camp – Long Island is a branch of the national Sunrise Association, which offers free day camps, year-round programs and hospital-based activities to support children with cancer and their siblings.
Nassau Candy and its founders, the Stier family, have been long-time supporters of the organization. Shirley and Les Stier, CEO of Nassau Candy, first heard about Sunrise Day Camp through friends and family who were involved there. They were moved by the organization’s mission to give children with cancer a chance at a normal childhood experience like summer camp.
“My parents were excited to be involved in a local initiative like this where we could reach a lot of local families,” said Lance Stier, their son and CEO of NC Custom. “So we thought it was really special.”
As a sponsor of this year’s Mildred & Samuel Levine Memorial Golf Classic benefiting Sunrise Day Camp – Long Island, Les was looking to exceed the organization’s fundraising goal for the event. Lance said his parents rallied both their family and business over the past few months to garner support for the organization and raise money in advance of the event, which ultimately helped reach the record-breaking $1.5 million.
Nassau Candy and the Stiers were honored for their support of the event and their fundraising efforts. At a dinner, Shirley spoke about the importance of giving back as a company and the importance of camp for a child.
The money raised is used to run the camps and allows children with cancer and their siblings to continue to attend for free. Attendance at a summer day camp costs about $6,000 for a child.
NC Custom, the promotional products division of Nassau Candy, ranks 22nd on Counselor’s latest list of the industry’s largest suppliers, with reported North American sales of $85 million from promotional products in 2023.
