TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – Police have arrested a Toledo woman on two counts of child endangerment after officers found her children wandering alone in the hallway of an apartment building in the middle of the night. She was previously convicted of the same charge, according to court records.
Toledo police say 20-year-old Kyah Watson left her two children in her apartment on Wednesday, leaving behind a number of safety concerns. Charging documents say she created a “significant risk” to her children’s health and safety by leaving them alone with the stove on, a hot comb, feces in the toilet, standing water in the bathtub, old food in the kitchen and two loose ibuprofen tablets.
Police found the two children alone in the hallway of the apartment complex shortly before 4 a.m. on August 27. A judge set a total of $50,000 bail for both charges.
Records show Watson was previously convicted of child endangerment and child abandonment in August 2022. Police said at the time that she left a 2-year-old child at home while she went shopping, noting that it was an “ongoing problem of the defendant leaving her children home alone.” Charging documents in that case say the front door was unlocked and sharp objects and lighters were left on the floor.
She entered a no contest plea in the case and was sentenced to 60 days in jail, with 60 days suspended, along with six months probation. The court ordered her to attend a parenting class.
In her 2024 case, Watson is due back in court on September 4.
