MASON, Ohio (WXIX) – Mason City Police have released the name of a former Mason City school bus driver who was charged with child endangerment after smelling of alcohol on the last day of school last year.
Police announced Wednesday that James Vance, 44, of Fairfield, was charged with 46 counts of child endangerment in Warren County Juvenile Court on Aug. 26.
A Mason police spokesman said the department was notified of an incident involving a suspected drunken Mason school bus driver on May 30 and an investigation was launched.
In a news release, the Mason City School District said 10 Mason High School students and 21 Mason Early Childhood students were being driven to school on May 30 before the driver could be removed from the bus. The district said another bus driver detected the odor of alcohol on the driver in question and notified the school.
On Tuesday, the district did not identify Vance as the employee by name, but said he no longer works for Mason City Schools.
The Warren County District Attorney’s Office assisted in this investigation.
