The Mega Millions lottery continues to grow after no one won the growing jackpot in Tuesday night’s drawing. The jackpot is expected to rise to $627 million in Friday night’s drawing.
The jackpot has been growing since June 4, when the last winning ticket with a jackpot of $552 million was sold in Illinois, according to the Mega Millions lottery website. “Only two Mega Millions jackpots have been won so far this year. Before the Illinois win on June 4, a whopping $1.128 billion was won in New Jersey,” the website states.
That “massive” prize has not yet been claimed; New Jersey winners have one year from the drawing date to claim their prize and their title as billionaires. On a smaller scale, two winning tickets were sold in the last drawing on August 27, both in South Carolina – one for $2 million and the other for $1 million.
The jackpot is currently estimated at $627 million, with a cash value of $309 million. Mega Millions lottery drawings are held on Tuesdays and Fridays at 11:00 p.m. EST.
