Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright agree that their marriage must end.
“Jax is 100 percent in favor of moving forward with the divorce,” a source told Page Six exclusively on Wednesday.
“He opted out of marriage a long time ago. He just wants to have a friendly co-parenting relationship.”
Cartwright, 34, filed for divorce from Taylor, 45, on Tuesday after five years of marriage, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split in court documents obtained by Page Six.
Our insider says that while the divorce was “of course sad for both of them because neither of them had imagined this for themselves,” it was “obvious that they were not a good fit.”
“Her vicious cycle had to be broken for the sake of her son,” the source adds.
Cartwright also noted in court documents that she is seeking sole custody and physical custody of her and Taylor’s three-year-old son, Cruz, but is willing to grant the “Vanderpump Rules” alumnus visitation rights.
We’re told the Valley star has kept her distance from her estranged husband during the split.
Cartwright moved out of their shared home early on in the separation, which she first confirmed in February, and has not visited her ex recently, although he claimed he was trying to work on himself.
Taylor checked himself into a mental health facility in July and his rep told us at the time: “Jax has always been open about his mental health struggles, especially over the last few months on his podcast.
“He has decided to seek inpatient treatment. This is a particularly sensitive time for him and his family.”
We have since learned that Taylor, whose real name is Jason Cauchi, has discontinued treatment, but Cartwright continues to protect her peace.
“Brittany hasn’t seen Jax since he got out of treatment,” a source told Page Six exclusively, adding, “She plans to send him to visit Cruz.”
Before filing for divorce, Cartwright spoke very openly about the problems in her marriage.
In the season finale of “The Valley,” she revealed the details of a violent fight that caused her to quit.
“He would go to bars and stuff, come home and have these horrible hangovers that made him mean as a king snake,” the reality star told her co-stars in the episode, which aired in June.
“Finally, after hours of him yelling at me… I packed up and Cruz and we got out of the house. Somehow I got to the point where I started noticing everything he was doing to me.”
Cartwright also spoke openly about the fact that the couple barely had sex during the last year of their marriage.
In addition, the mother of one told People in April that she had “basically” done “everything for the household,” including taking care of their son.
Since declaring her independence, Cartwright has raved on social media about getting her “shine back” and enjoying a night out on the town with one of her good friends, co-star Zack Wickham.
The Bravo star was also spotted ordering alcohol to her home before her fun outing.
A source told People that Cartwright did not make the decision to file for divorce “lightly,” but was “firmly convinced it was the right one.”
Representatives for the former couple did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
