Sorry if you had another beach trip or two planned, but fall beauty trends are officially here. With so many exciting new trends in hair and makeup, it’s no wonder everyone is looking to get in on the seasonal fun a little early this year. In fact, some of the top trends are leftovers from summer. Over the past few months, many celebrities have indulged in big haircuts to match the warmer weather, but the appeal of a big haircut doesn’t seem to be waning as fall approaches. Just look at Joey King’s new “clavi cut.” With its collarbone-touching length and sharp, blunt ends, it dominated June, July, and August—and is clearly staying on trend in September, too.
King’s friend and long-time stylist Dimitris Giannetos presented the first look at the actress’ new hairstyle, which was created during her promotional tour for the film adaptation of the young adult novel. Ugly. Giannetos refers to the cut as a “C-bob,” but that term is synonymous with the clavi cut. In his Instagram caption, he explains that it simply means a look down to the collarbone. King’s take on the style is particularly sleek, complete with a laser-precise center part and flawless ends that help accentuate the dimension of her golden blonde highlights.
“The clavi cut is one of the few hairstyles that can look good on almost anyone,” celebrity hairstylist Bryce Scarlett told TZR in July, noting that this look is easily adaptable to the wearer’s individual face shape. “It can be pulled back into a ponytail and/or a slicked back bun to create different hairstyle options depending on preference and lifestyle.”
As daring as King’s look is, it’s likely just a temporary move. She and Giannetos like to experiment with wigs, trying out all sorts of dramatic lengths and styles without actually having to commit to the seriousness of a full haircut. In late May, the couple went viral when they first wore what Giannetos called the “Prada bob.” Days later, however, King’s usual long waves were back in action.
With King’s latest press tour just getting underway, you can expect to see many more trendy cuts, colors and styles from the star.
