It is not too late for Travis Kelce and his horse to come to their senses.
Finally, the Kansas City Chiefs player has acquired a share in a three-year-old gelding named Swift Delivery, according to thoroughbred horse racing stable Team Valor International.
Kelce now shares his interest in the racehorse with “Scream” producer Gary Barber and the Zoldan family, which includes Phantom Fireworks owner Bruce Zoldan and his son Alex Zoldan.
Of course, fans couldn’t help but make a connection between the horse’s name similarity and Taylor Swift, who Kelce has been dating since last summer.
The NFL star’s older brother, Jason Kelce, even made a Taylor-related joke about his new addition, writing on X (formerly Twitter) on August 27, in reference to the singer’s song “The Tortured Poets Department”: “Can this horse do it with a broken heart?”
And Travis Kelce’s decision to purchase a share in the horse is not the first time he has shown interest in racing. In fact, he attended the Kentucky Derby three months ago as a guest of the Zoldans.
“I’m a derby guy now, man,” the 34-year-old said on the May 8 episode of his and Jason’s “New Heights” podcast. “It was so much fun.”
Kelce called it a “really great experience,” thanked the Zoldans for their hospitality and described the family as the “royal family” of the Kentucky Derby.
“They have been a part of the Derby for 30 years,” he said. “They have made it easy and fun to come and enjoy the Derby.”
And what about Swift Delivery? The brown-haired steed is a winner like Kelce himself, taking first place in a race at Woodbine in Toronto last month.
According to horse breeding database Equine Line, Swift Delivery is also a descendant of Triple Crown winner Secretariat, who Jason Kelce once jokingly accused of using performance-enhancing drugs during his historic run.
“Secretariat happened to be right in the heart of the steroid era,” the former Philadelphia Eagles player pointed out at New Heights. “In 1973, every NFL player, every baseball player was pumped to the max. You don’t think Secretariat was pumped to the max, do you?”
He later apologized for the joke after the children of late Secretariat owner Penny Chenery publicly denied the allegations.
“I’m sorry guys, I didn’t mean to upset people, I really thought it was just common knowledge that steroid use was rampant in the ’70s,” Jason Kelce wrote in a May 6 post on X. “I don’t mean to diminish Secretariat’s legacy or that of anyone from that era.”
Taylor Swift is spending the last weeks of summer partying with her celebrity friends. After wrapping up the European leg of the Eras Tour at the end of August, the pop star flew to Rhode Island, where she hosted a star-studded party over the weekend.
