The economic situation is a heavy burden for Armie Hammer.
The once sought-after actor andCall me by your name The star announced on his Instagram account on Tuesday that he is selling his beloved pickup truck because, as he himself says, he can no longer afford the rising gas prices.
“I’ve been back in LA for a few weeks now, this is my truck,” Hammer said in a video post he shared on his account that was apparently filmed in the parking lot of a local CarMax, a nationwide auto dealership chain that specializes in buying and selling used cars. “I bought this for myself as a Christmas present in 2017. I’ve loved this truck very much and have taken it camping and across the country and on long road trips several times, and I took it to CarMax for one final road trip. This is because I’m selling my truck.”
According to Hammer, the reason for selling his truck (a GMC Sierra Denali) is that he simply cannot afford to fill up the tank at the gas station.
“Since I’ve been back in LA, I’ve put $400 to $500 worth of gas in it, and I can’t afford it,” he admits in the video. “I can’t afford the gas anymore.”
He ends the video by saying that he has bought a new hybrid car to keep himself mobile and that he is looking forward to a “fresh start” with “his new car, his new apartment and a new life in Los Angeles” during the week of his birthday (today, August 28, he turns 38).
The bizarre video about Hammer and his fuel-related financial problems is just the latest move in a current attempt at a revenge tour following his massive fall from grace in 2021, when the Golden Globe nominee was accused of abuse, rape and cannibalism.
Earlier this summer, Hammer appeared on the Painful lessons Podcast and broke his silence for the first time about all these allegations since they first came to light.
“People called me a cannibal. Like I eat people! What???? Do you know what you have to do to be a cannibal? You have to eat people!” Hammer told host Tyler Ramsey at the time.
Back in 2021, Hammer was accused of raping a woman in 2017. Around the same time these allegations were made, other people came forward and shared alleged text messages and direct messages from the actor in which he described violent sexual fantasies about cannibalism and murder. In the alleged messages, Hammer shared these fantasies, saying he wanted to do things like “break your bones,” “cut off a piece of your skin and force you to cook it for me,” “I want to see your brain, your blood, your organs, every part of you,” and “I need your blood. I want you to feed it to me.”
Although he has retreated from the public eye and been dropped from the numerous film and television projects he was involved in following controversy, Hammer seems to be attempting a public comeback… by letting people know he can’t afford gas.
