ATLANTA, August 28, 2024 /Standard Newswire/ – The following was released by Dr. Alveda King:
On this 61st anniversary of my uncle, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s famous “I HAVE A DREAM” speech, let us remember his words: “I have a dream… rooted in the American Dream.” Yes, Uncle ML was a patriot. He understood that our founding principles were a key to liberation, justice and freedom for all.
He did not want us to turn our backs on our ancestors or abandon our constitutional principles. Instead, he reminded us that our inheritance was tied to a “promissory note” by pointing to a “check mark for insufficient funds.”
If Uncle ML were here today, he would remind us that we are one blood, one human race. He would remind us to learn to live together as brothers and sisters and not to perish together as fools. He would remind us, as the one human race, to consider character and to celebrate ethnicity and color rather than divide them.
The American Dream is still alive today. We must remind and remind every generation, every decade, and on every platform, in every hallway and voting booth, of the permanence of faith, hope, and love. Value life and human dignity; from the womb to the grave and beyond…
On this 61st anniversary, the release of my new song “In Atlanta” reminds us that the dream still lives on.
A few years ago we recorded “Let Freedom Ring,” with the lyrics “Thank God King had a dream.”
This year it’s time for a new song on “I Have A Dream Day.” Because the dream is still alive: “In Atlanta.”
Recorded by myself in concert with the talented, acclaimed and award-winning producer Rahni Song, this tribute “In Atlanta” is “a poem set to music,” a tribute to the city of my birth and life.
Rahni Song is also the producer of my MLK anthem LET FREEDOM Ring, sung by Vernessa Mitchell.
While producing the new song, the Bible passage came to mind: “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Of course, for me, the life of my Lord and Savior – my Master Jesus Christ – on earth began in Nazareth, after His birth in Bethlehem. So, inspired by this revelation, with the release of this song “IN ATLANTA” I ask the question: Can anything good come out of Atlanta? We leave the decision to you.
So today, let us remember the dream and MLK, the dreamer. Let us pray that the check marked “bounced” will be cashed by God’s grace. Let us celebrate and honor life and human dignity from the womb to the grave and beyond. Let us revive King’s dream in our memory and fulfill it.
