NEW MARKET, Maryland (WJLA) – Neighbors still can’t believe it after learning that four children were hiding in their suburban Maryland home while their parents were killed in their bedroom.
Crimea Baker, 33, and Sean Lange, 34, were killed in the double murder early Sunday morning, the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office said.
There were four children in the house at the time. They were not injured, but hid for hours until they felt safe enough to come out and see what had happened.
“Based on our conversations with the children, it happened at approximately 1:30 a.m. and we believe based on what the children told us, they hid in the house until morning until they felt safe to figure out what had happened,” said Sheriff Chuck Jenkins.
The sheriff said his department was devastated by the crime.
“This was truly a heinous, targeted double murder, a crime of anger and rage. This is the kind of crime that shocks the conscience of every person in Frederick County.”
Jenkins said it was a targeted shot.
“This was clearly a ‘rage killing’ by an angry, agitated individual. Forty-two shots were fired at or into the victims at close range,” Jenkins said.
According to officials, Baker was the mother of all four children and had one of the children with Lange.
“I can’t imagine what’s going on in their heads. One of the children found his mother and the man in bed, both dead. All I can say is their lives are destroyed, they’re completely upside down right now,” Jenkins said.
Now social services are working with the four children who are the main concerns in the community.
While most neighbors did not want to go on camera, one of them said it was heartbreaking to hear about the tragedy.
“I’m a therapist and I work with children. It breaks my heart to think of the trauma they must have witnessed and experienced,” said a neighbor. “I hope they all end up in a place where they can get the help they need.”
