AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center is launching an internship program for master’s level counseling students.
“We will work with them to facilitate the group process. We will use a special treatment method that is specifically tailored to trauma, and that is the format we will use for the group therapies. We will move to individual therapies, and I will guide them through that with their clients as well,” said Bobbi Britto, clinical director of mental health services at The Bridge Children’s Advocacy Center.
Interns work with trauma cases, assist with individual and group therapy sessions, and learn to work in a multidisciplinary team.
“People don’t know if they want to treat trauma cases or work with children. This is a great experience, a new experience, a unique experience in this field. We need more people working in the mental health industry, there are just not enough counselors to serve the population of the Panhandle in this area,” Britto said.
The prerequisite for the application is that the students are in an internship phase and have two letters of recommendation from a faculty or a person from the consulting profession.
To apply, contact Bobbi Britto at [email protected].
On average, students complete 10 to 15 hours of internship per week and conduct personal consultations and training sessions with children and families.
According to Britto, there are currently four to five positions available for the spring semester and applications are now open.
