Country singer Scotty McCreery, known as the winner of the tenth season of “American Idol,” interrupted his show in Colorado over the weekend after he witnessed a man allegedly hitting a woman in the audience.
“Hey, hey, hey! Right here. That’s a woman you just hit, sir,” the 30-year-old singer of “Damn Strait” can be heard saying in a video that concertgoer Jessica Rosario posted on Facebook on Saturday.
McCreery had just finished singing a few words of “It Matters to Her,” which he said earlier in the clip was his wife Gabi Dugal’s favorite song, at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo when the incident occurred.
When he took the floor, his band immediately stopped playing and you could hear the shock in the audience.
“Absolutely not. Who just hit the woman?” McCreery then asked. “Police, security. Is she OK?”
The “I Love You This Big” singer then threw the man out, saying, “Get out of here!”
His fans erupted in cheers and McCreery seemed dismayed that someone would do such a thing at his show.
“What are you doing?” he asked as the man was escorted out, eliciting boos and shouts.
After a few minutes, McCreery was able to play again, but not without taking one final hit.
“Wherever you are, that’s the definition of a coward when you hit a woman,” the “Feelin’ It” singer told his fans, who responded with clapping and cheers. “Get out of here, dude.”
Rosario responded to the ordeal in the caption of her now viral video, writing: “People can’t behave right! Dude hits a woman at Scotty McCreery concert what (a disgrace)”
She then praised McCreery, saying he was “the right guy” for kicking out the alleged attacker. She concluded, “Respect for stopping the show and getting him removed.”
Olga Robak, spokeswoman for the Colorado State Fair, confirmed to Page Six that an investigation is underway, but so far there appear to have been no arrests.
Representatives for McCreery also told Page Six that he was unable to comment at this time and that the country singer has not made a statement regarding the incidents on social media.
