Many people know, love, and trust brands when it comes to electronics. They also prefer to buy from them when they need an upgrade. But sometimes they are severely disappointed with what they get. Or sometimes they are confused. A woman named Lyss, who goes by @itsmelyssk on TikTok, found herself in a confusing situation when she bought wireless Beats headphones and used them to listen to music from Apple Music and Spotify. The sound quality was so different on both platforms that the woman was speechless.
“I almost blew my eardrums,” Lyss began. “So, I got these last night, the Beats Studio Pros, and I was a little disappointed, I’m not even going to lie.” She added, “So, I started playing music from my Apple Music and I was like, am I losing my hearing? Because the volume was all the way up.” She explained how she tried using the headphones with spatial sound on and off, and tried with noise cancellation on and off. She also tried turning transparency mode on and off, but the volume was still low. “I was like, wow, I’m about to return these things,” the woman thought before trying to do something else to figure out what was wrong.
“I thought there’s no way I can just get these and they’re crap,” she said. “I was so surprised because I loved my Solo 2s, the original Solos,” she added, which were always great quality. “I said let me just go to Spotify.” Lyss admitted, “I almost literally blew my eardrums.” She asked, “What the heck is the difference between Apple Music and Spotify? Why is the sound quality on Apple Music so terrible when I play it through Apple headphones?” The woman continued, “I guess I’ll never use Apple again, like I’m canceling my Apple Music subscription.” Lyss asked, “Can someone explain this to me?”
She concluded by saying, “This is the reason I will never use Apple Music again. I can’t believe the difference in sound quality… wow.” The woman captioned the video, “Excuse me, can someone explain this to me?” The video received over 190,500 views and more than 4,100 likes. People explained in the comments section why they found the music quality better with Apple Music and what Lyss can do to fix the problem.
@yeehaw.pawtner commented: “Technically Apple Music should sound better, they support higher audio quality and Spotify doesn’t compare. If you search for music in your settings and look under “Mobile Streaming” you should be there. Change the quality, lossless is probably the best option in terms of quality. In music settings you can also change the EQ sound if you like that.” @ganrkillz wrote: “Apple Lossless Audio is pretty good on my $700 setup on my PC. Beats is a really bad way to compare sound quality lol. I need a good pair of hi-fi headphones and an amp/DAC for that.”
@rondneyvillalon1 noted, “I understand that Apple Music is considered ‘quality audio’ but when I’m running my third mile, I need that ear-splitting music to motivate my soul!” @sethabrwon shared, “Spotify is lossy BUT they play at higher volumes to compensate. Also, make sure you’re using the highest quality settings on any service.”
