Yesterday was the first day of QuakeCon, the annual convention hosted by ZeniMax Media (Bethesda’s parent company) to celebrate all things id Software.
QuakeCon serves as both a platform for future announcements from id Software and a LAN party for those who want to play older titles, such as Quake And DOWNFALL with some like-minded LAN lovers.
However, we want to focus on announcements today, as Bethesda has announced that two classic titles from id Software will be updated and ported to multiple systems.
As confirmed yesterday in a tweet from the QuakeCon Twitter account, enhanced editions of both DOWNFALL And DOOM II are now available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, GOG, Nintendo Switch, Steam, the Epic Games Store, and all Windows and Xbox storefronts.
Both games are available together in an updated package for £7.99 and also offer a ton of new features.
The DOOM + DOOM II Bundle features include “new content, community-published mods, online multiplayer for up to 16 players with cross-play, and up to 120 Hz in 4K.”
Xbox owners don’t have to worry about the price though, because if you have an active Game Pass subscription then DOOM + DOOM II is already available for you to download free of charge.
If you either DOWNFALL or DOOM II on one of the previously listed storefronts, then you can now DOOM + DOOM II Package for free. Even if you only own one of the games, you will get the other one included in the new package for free as well.
Day 2 of QuakeCon will likely have already begun by the time this article goes live, so keep an eye out for more news from the convention in the next few hours.
Now that I mention it, it has been a while since we had a new Quake Game. You know, the game the convention is named after. Throw us a bone, folks.
