My Hero Academia: Will there be a sequel?
My Hero Academia ended with chapter 430. Is there hope that Horikoshi will make a sequel?
One of the fans’ particular concerns was the hero rankings after the end of the war. In particular, fans wanted to know what the hero system would look like after the overhaul and who would be the best hero in the end. My Hero Academia. The answer is finally given in the last chapter of the story.
The discontinuation of Endeavor and the system change
- The venture was paralyzed
- Hawks has lost his quirk
My Hero Academia started with All Might as the number one hero. This is no surprise to any fan, and everyone knows that the symbol of peace was resilient for many, many years. Crime dropped to an all-time low when he was the top hero, and there was absolutely no one who could even come close to him in terms of strength. The only one who could stand up to him in battle was All For One, and All Might did his best to properly best him whenever they faced each other in battle. Eventually, however, All Might had to pass his power on to someone else, and that’s where Deku came in. After the transfer of the specialty, all he was left with was the embers of One For All, which eventually went out in his fight with All For One. After that fight, he was without a specialty and could no longer continue as the number one hero. This is where Endeavor stepped in and took over the position of the strongest.
Endeavor becoming a top hero was great for his character as it showed him what it really means to be a hero. At the same time, it gave him time for self-reflection and helped him become a better person. Regardless of all of this, Endeavor certainly lived up to the expectations of a top hero by protecting many people and saving them from various threats. Even in the Final War, Endeavor did incredibly well against the likes of All For One and wrote his name in history. However, it was clear to fans that Endeavor would not remain the top hero forever. His injuries in the Final War were so severe that he could no longer be a hero. Endeavor was eventually forced to retire as he could no longer even walk, crippling him for the rest of his life. In many ways, he may have even considered it a price for everything he had done in the past.
With his retirement, fans knew that the hero rankings would change drastically. This is also where Hawks suggested the introduction of a new hero system. Under this new system, the general public would also be considered in the hero rankings, especially after witnessing what they did in the last war to keep the peace and secure victory against the League of Villains. Fans cannot really shed any light on this concept and how it works, and it would not be accurate to say that the author showed any normal civilian etching their name on the Billboard charts. Needless to say, the concept does exist and perhaps will be explored further in a sequel story at some point later.
The new number one hero after the war – Mirio Togata
Lemillion took the top spot and left the others behind
After Endeavor’s retirement, fans don’t know who really became the new number one hero. Many hero positions were completely reshuffled. For example, Endeavor left the agency, Hawks stopped being a hero and took a completely different position, Jeanist and Edgeshot were also pushed out, and Mirko was seriously injured, although it seems like she is still a hero to this day. Fans don’t really get to see much of the hero rankings immediately after the water. What they do get to see in the final chapter of My Hero Academia, however, is a look at society 8 years later.
As long as the girl can smile… I can’t give that up! – Mirio Togata
The world has changed quite a bit now, and so have the hero rankings in Japan. The top hero at this point and in history is none other than Mirio Togata, also known as Lemillion. He has cemented his position as number one, and that makes perfect sense. Fans got to know Mirio quite early on, and right from his introduction in the story, it was made clear that even among the Pro Heroes, back when he was a student, he was the man closest to All Might.

My Hero Academia: Deku’s new armor, explained
Deku has gained a new power. It is an armor that helps him to level up again.
The fact that his name was already so famous during his time at UA shows that he had the potential to become the best. 8 years after the war, he probably reached a very high level of power and became the strongest of his era.
Do you know how Togata-senpai shot to the top of the charts, overtaking Kamui Woods and Mt Lady? – Deku
The fact is that Mirio maintained this position in an era where heroes were at a very high level. This was confirmed in the last chapter of My hero academia. Because there is more stability among the heroes in My Hero Academia, it is much harder to become a hero. Because of this, the overall level of the heroes is very high, which means that Mirio is actually the number one hero in a more difficult era.
Bakugo and Shoto’s hero rankings
Bakugo and Shoto are neck and neck
Bakugo and Shoto were also mentioned in the hero rankings 8 years later in the story. It was mentioned that Bakugo was probably either ahead of Shoto or that they were on the same level. But due to Bakugo’s unruly nature, it was predicted that Shoto would soon overtake him in the hero rankings. It was also hinted that Kamui Woods and Mount Lady are ahead of both Bakugo and Shoto, which is quite surprising. Fans don’t know exactly what the hero rankings look like, but as things stand, these heroes are the ones who could make it to the top five.
Of course, the hero rankings will become even more exciting in the future, but currently Mirio is undisputed at the top.
My Hero Academia is available to read via Viz Media. Fans can read the series officially and for free on Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the final chapter of My Hero Academia, My Hero Academia Chapter 430, was August 4, 2024.
