Update:
August 8, 2024, 11:29 p.m.: This story has been updated as the lanes appear to be reopening.
A man involved in a chase with Fort Worth police stopped his vehicle on the Loop 820 ramp at the Loop 820-Interstate 35W intersection, bringing several lanes of traffic to a standstill for hours Thursday evening.
According to a 7:11 p.m. X-post from the Fort Worth Police Department, the chase ended at the northbound ramp to northeast Loop 820. Due to the incident, police appeared to have closed several lanes to both northbound and southbound traffic on I-35W, as well as westbound and eastbound traffic on Loop 820, according to the post and Texas Department of Transportation traffic cameras.
Images from the interchange show a stopped truck with a large number of police vehicles parked behind it. Other images from I-35W show a long line of stationary vehicles, while images from Loop 820 show a nearly empty highway.
The man involved in the chase appeared to have been livestreaming the chase on Facebook. In three separate livestreams, the first of which began around 6:45 p.m., the man can be seen driving while simultaneously talking on the phone with someone begging him to end the chase and surrender.
The man then stops the car on the Loop 820 on-ramp and threatens to jump off the ramp while standing on the edge of the ramp. The video then shows him standing on the edge talking to police for over an hour.
In total, the man appeared to have streamed live for about two and a half hours and ended the whole thing around 9:15 p.m.
The authority said it would inform the public as soon as the highway was reopened. At around 11:15 p.m., the ramp appeared to be open again.
