It is not possible to say exactly how long Prince Harry has been at loggerheads with King Charles and the rest of the royal family – it all depends on whether you consider the beginning to be the publication of Spare part or Harry’s move to America – but according to sources close to the royal family, the Duke of Sussex believed that the situation had calmed down by now. According to Tom Quinn, author of Scandals in the royal palaces: Personal memories of royal misconductHarry assumed that everything he had done, from the Oprah interview to the memoir, would be forgiven, that his father would apologize, and that everyone would live happily ever after. Of course, that’s not quite how it has turned out.
“Despite all his criticism, Harry always assumed his father would forgive him,” Quinn said The mirror“He thought Charles would make up for the pain, which – from Harry’s perspective – justified the criticism.”
Quinn went on to say that Charles has managed to keep his composure and not say anything about Harry to the public. Behind the gilded gates of Buckingham Palace, however, things might be a little different. People who follow the royals know that Harry paid a visit to his father earlier this year after Charles announced he had been diagnosed with cancer, but during a trip to London to celebrate the anniversary of the Invictus Games, the two were unable to find time to meet.
“Despite Harry’s attacks on the royal family, his father has avoided responding by publicly attacking his son, but privately King Charles is furious. So much so that he now refuses to take calls from his son,” Quinn added.
While a solution is not yet in sight, there may be hope if Princess Beatrice gets her way. Sources say she could play a key role in bridging the gap between Harry and his brother Prince William, as well as other members of the royal family.
“(Princess) Beatrice could act as a peacemaker for Harry, William and Charles,” said Grant Harrold, King Charles’ former royal butler, in an interview with Express. “She would be someone who could bring peace to the family. She is close to William and Harry as well as the King – and they trust her.”
