Burger King is joining the wave of fast-food restaurants that are introducing price spikes — their menus cost more or less depending on current demand — and customers aren’t happy. Menu prices have been rising for months, and customers are complaining that they’re paying $15, $20, or even $30 for an order. Just recently, a customer noticed another example of the chain’s money-making scheme — read on to find out more.

Burger King customer paid $3 extra at the checkout
User Simply827 shared his experience at Burger King on Reddit, writing, “I’m at Burger King on NJ Turnpike and it seems like they have some sort of dynamic pricing.” In the photo attached to the post, it can be seen that the poster’s original price was $33.89 and the new total price is $34.18. The only explanation for this is, “Prices are subject to change for various reasons.”
But that wasn’t the only complaint @Simply827 had. “They also wanted $3 extra to add bacon to a burger! But bacon AND cheese were half the price.” Now that doesn’t quite make sense.
The price increases are comparable to an Uber ride costing more during rush hour than, say, at 1 p.m. because demand is lower. However, many customers can’t understand what this has to do with fast food! One TikToker, @Jerenewc, made a video about the price increases, saying: “Your cost of goods isn’t going up. It’s staying the same, so if that isn’t price gouging at its finest…”

Customers criticize Burger King: “I’ve had enough of fast food”
Customers wholeheartedly agree with social media users @Simply827 and @Jerenewc, writing their thoughts in the comments section of @Simply827’s Reddit post. “Is this a joke?” asked one person. “I’ve had this happen to me before when buying airline tickets, but at Burger King? Have we gone crazy?”
“We’ve gone from ‘Would you like to pay 75 cents more to make your meal bigger?’ to ‘Would you like to pay 75 cents more or you won’t get your meal?'” noted another.
“These must be price spikes,” said another. “I’m fed up with fast food. They’ve forgotten their place.”
“I would quit and leave,” wrote one user.
“This is an appetizer and an alcoholic beverage in a waitstaff restaurant!” noted another user.
“Cancel,” urged one person. “That’s the only way to stop this. Cancel the order and never go back.”
“Quit every time or this will be the new norm for the rest of our lives,” agreed a final person.
