(MENAFN – Jordan Times) AMMAN – His Majesty King Abdullah reiterated on Tuesday that Jordan is determined to pursue political, economic and administrative modernization and will not be held back by regional challenges.
During a meeting with politicians and media representatives at Al Husseiniya Palace, His Majesty spoke about the importance of the constitutional requirements entailed by the upcoming parliamentary elections and stressed the need to continue the political modernization process to reach a more mature party-political stage, a statement from the Royal Court said.
In this context, the King stressed that it is everyone’s responsibility to ensure the success of modernization: the state creates a conducive environment, the parties present realistic programs and the citizens elect the most qualified candidates.
Regarding regional developments, His Majesty stressed that Jordan will not accept the region remaining hostage to the policies of the extremist Israeli government, the statement said.
The King stressed Jordan’s efforts to bring about comprehensive calm in the region and reiterated his call to the international community to intensify its efforts to end the war in Gaza and the unilateral measures in the West Bank, particularly in Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al Haram Al Sharif, to prevent escalation into a regional war.
His Majesty reiterated Jordan’s strong rejection of any attempt to forcibly displace Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip and reiterated that the Kingdom will not allow any regional escalation at the expense of its people and their security.
His Majesty also stressed the important role of politicians and media professionals in presenting facts and countering any attempts to spread rumors that undermine Jordan and its efforts.
For their part, the participants stressed that Jordan’s continued efforts towards the Palestinians under the leadership of the King are a source of pride for all Jordanians and pointed to the humanitarian assistance that Jordan provides to the residents of the Gaza Strip.
They also underlined Jordan’s diplomatic efforts to end the war in Gaza. They called on the international community to increase humanitarian assistance to Gaza and ensure an unhindered flow of aid. They also stressed the need to counter any attempts to undermine or question Jordan’s position.
The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Royal Hashemite Court Yousef Issawi, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Director of His Majesty’s Office Jafar Hassan.
