We give you an exclusive look at the new trailer for Hellboy: The Crooked Man in the UK and it’s a folk horror nightmare.
In the clip, which you can watch below, we see Hellboy confront an unusual enemy: a girl who appears to be possessed and whose body is wrapped in a snake. Thankfully, Hellboy wastes no time in yanking the snake away and wrestling her to the ground – and then he gruesomely rips her head off with one hand. Yuck.
But that’s not the only strange thing in the trailer: a character appears to swallow a raccoon, there are hints of religious horror and the sinister villain, the Crooked Man himself, makes an appearance. Ominous…

In short, it looks like a grounded, absolutely terrifying horror film with a strong folk and religious influence. We’re in!
The film stars Jack Kesy as Hellboy, and also stars Jefferson White, Joseph Marcell, Martin Bassindale, Leah McNamara, Adeline Rudolph, Hannah Margetson, Nathan Cooper and Carola Colombo. It is directed by Brian Taylor from a screenplay co-written by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden and Taylor himself.
“I’ve often come in late to projects where someone else had already put the pieces together in a way that didn’t quite fit,” Mignola told us at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. “And this time I had the chance to say, ‘We’re doing The Crooked Man, we’re sticking with this story.’ We need to add a little bit of backstory. So we took it from another story so we didn’t have to come up with anything new.”
