Redemption Sur Lee Straight Rye Whiskey
Supplement to the speciality series, Redemption Whiskey has announced the release of Redemption Sur Lee Straight Rye Whiskey.
The whisky is inspired by the French Sur Lie winemaking process, which produces a deeper, richer and more complex profile.
To produce the Sur Lee Straight Rye Whiskey, the whisky makers of repayment started with their classic rye mash, which contains 95% rye. The “lees” (the sediment left in the stills during distillation that is normally removed) is added back to the whiskey before it is bottled. The barrels are then rotated regularly to ensure maximum interaction between the lees and the whiskey. According to a press release from the brand, “The ‘Sur Lee’ method intensifies the complexity of the rye to further enhance and develop the whiskey.”
As a result, Redemption Sur Lee features notes of “toasted marshmallow, maple and nutmeg, rounded off by a lingering spicy finish.”
Alan Kennedy, Redemption’s Master Blender, commented, “Redemption Sur Lee Straight Rye Whiskey represents a bold step forward in innovation in rye whiskey. By incorporating the sur lie method, we have created a whiskey that not only does justice to our classic pre-Prohibition rye mash, but also pushes the boundaries of what rye can be. I’m excited to offer fans a whiskey that truly redefines the category with its unexpected approach to aging.”
Redemption Sur Lee is bottled at 47% ABV and costs $59.99 via ReserveBar and in select stores in the US.
