A coveted LeBron James memorabilia is set to go up for auction next month and is expected to sell for a staggering amount.
James’ iconic St. Vincent-St. Mary High School jersey, worn during his iconic photo shoot for the cover story of “The Chosen One” in 2002 Sports illustrated will headline Julien’s Auctions’ Legends In Motion event in Hong Kong on September 28. The jersey is estimated to fetch between $1 million and $2 million, which would set a new world record for a high school basketball jersey sold at auction.
“LeBron James’ famous high school basketball jersey ‘The Chosen One’ and these rare photo prints of him taken during his remarkable Sports illustrated Photoshoots are some of the most iconic and important pieces in sports and entertainment history,” said David Goodman, CEO of Julien’s Auctions, in a press release. “This history-making jersey represents the defining moment of LeBron’s rise to basketball royalty and is one of the all-time must-have collectibles for collectors, historians and fans of sports memorabilia.”
After the photo shoot for Sports illustratedJames wore the same jersey later that day when he scored 32 points and seven rebounds in a high school game between St. Vincent-St. Mary and Archbishop Hoban.
The cover story, “The Chosen One,” catapulted James to national superstardom a year before he was selected No. 1 in the 2003 NBA Draft. He lived up to his nickname, winning four NBA championships and breaking the record for most career points in league history.
The 39-year-old is entering his 22nd season in the NBA and wants to crown his legendary career with a highlight.
