STAMFORD, Connecticut.—NBCUniversal has announced that its coverage of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will be accessible to more viewers of all ability levels than ever before with enhanced closed captioning, enhanced audio description and increased accessibility of digital content.
Closed captioning, which provides the text of audio coverage for viewers who are deaf or hard of hearing, will be available for all Paralympics events broadcast on NBC and USA Network. In addition, closed captioning will be available for all live digital streams with commentary on Peacock, NBCParalympics.com, NBC.com and the NBC Sports app.
In addition, more audio description services will be available for blind and visually impaired viewers at Paris 2024 than at any previous Paralympics, with audio broadcasts interspersed with professional narrators describing scenes and context from the Paralympics. All coverage on NBC, USA Network, CNBC and the Goldzone The whip-around show on Peacock will feature audio description from Descriptive Video Works, NBCU reported.
Coverage will also feature improved web content accessibility, including keyboard navigation, color contrast and screen reader support on NBCParalympics.com, NBC.com, the NBC Sports app and Peacock. For live streams and replays with audio description, English audio description will be available as a language selection on players on these digital platforms.
