SAVANNAH – The first joint visit by Democratic presidential candidate U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz took place this afternoon in Chatham County. Cities like Savannah, the county’s largest city, where the Harris/Walz bus tour began in southeast Georgia on Wednesday, August 28, are often forgotten by voters. And it’s easy to see why. Only a small percentage of the county’s nearly 19,000 registered voters participated in the closed presidential primary in March. Former President Donald J. Trump won the Republican primary (former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley came in second) and current U.S. President Joseph R. Biden received the Democratic nomination by a large margin.
Harris is no stranger to Georgia, having visited the state seven times this year and 16 times since taking office as vice president. Walz visited the state for the first time as a vice presidential candidate.
15:50 – Harris and Walz walked over to greet a group of Savannah State University students who were waiting for their arrival.
3:45 p.m. – Savannah Mayor Van Johnson and Georgia Congresswoman Nikema Williams greeted Harris and Walz as they stepped off the Air Force 2 aircraft onto the tarmac of the Georgia Air National Guard Air Dominance Center.
