21.08.2021: How to download your COVID-19 vaccination certificate
COVID-19 vaccination certificates are quickly becoming mandatory for various tasks, such as international travel. They also simplify the hassle of domestic travel post-pandemic. In fact, several private and government agencies now require their employees to show their certificates. So here is an overview of all the reliable sources from where you can download your COVID-19 vaccination certificate to display, share or print.
Options: Co-WIN portal and Aarogya Setu app use very similar processes
Let’s start with the secure method of downloading your certificate – the Co-WIN website. After logging into the portal and entering the OTP, simply click on the ‘Certificate’ button on the dashboard to download a copy. On the government-run contact tracing app Aarogya Setu, tap on ‘Vaccination’ and enter your phone number and OTP to log in. Then click on ‘Certificate’ to download.
Convenience first: MyGov Corona Helpdesk on WhatsApp offers unmatched convenience
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has partnered with Facebook-owned messaging service WhatsApp. First, save the MyGov Corona Helpdesk phone number (90131 51515) on your phone and start a conversation with the message “COVID Certificate”. Enter the OTP you receive and select the beneficiary in case you have linked vaccination of multiple people to the same phone number.
Attention: Helpdesk is not necessarily the fastest solution in an emergency
Once you’ve selected the correct vaccinated recipient, the MyGov Corona Helpdesk should automatically send you the COVID-19 vaccination certificate in PDF format in the chat. Note that the WhatsApp chatbot was painfully slow to respond in our tests, so don’t rely on this method if you’re in a hurry to get the certificate. However, it’s undoubtedly handy.
Details: With the Umang app you can also download the COVID-19 vaccination certificate
Alternatively, you can also download your vaccination certificate using the Umang app, which offers various government services including passport and PAN related services. On the Umang app or website, use the search bar to find the ‘Co-WIN’ page. Then click on the ‘Download Vaccination Certificate’ banner and enter your phone number and OTP when prompted. After authentication, the certificate download should start automatically.
Everything digital: You can save a digital copy of the certificate in the DigiLocker app
If you want the convenience of having a digital copy of the certificate at your fingertips at all times without having to dig through your phone’s file manager, you’ve surely heard of DigiLocker. This government-run app lets you digitally download and store your documents from most government sources. An option to download the COVID-19 vaccination certificate is also available.
Instructions: Certificate download function also available from some private providers
Log in or register on the DigiLocker app and then type ‘COVID-19’ in the search bar. From the options displayed, select ‘COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate’, then tap on ‘Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’, enter the beneficiary’s ID and click on the ‘Get Document’ button to download the certificate. Some private companies like Paytm, JioHealth Hub and Eka Care provide the facility to download vaccination certificates.
