As Page Six learned, Matt Lauer’s 20-year-old daughter Romy drove her car into a fence and a sign in the Hamptons on the Fourth of July weekend. However, the student left her license plate at the scene of the accident so that it could be found by local police.
Several sources told Page Six that the license plate on Romy’s Jeep Wrangler fell off in the collision, which later enabled Southampton Town Police to identify the former “Today” presenter’s daughter.
The daughter of Lauer and his ex-wife, model Annette Roque, was summoned for leaving the scene of the accident without permission, police confirmed.
Another source told us that a ticket was issued and that influential local attorney Edward Burke Jr. is “currently involved in the case and is clearing it up for Ms. Lauer in court.”
Burke’s famous clients include Justin Timberlake, and he has also represented Matt Lauer, Lizzie Grubman, Jason Kidd and other VIPs.
A source told us that a 911 call came in about 4 a.m. on the morning of July 5 about an accident on North Sea Mecox Road. The call came from a concerned neighbor who had heard a loud noise and was concerned that someone might be injured.
When police arrived, we were told, a fence and a sign had been knocked down – but the driver sped off, leaving his license plate behind.
On the evening of July 4, Romy posted a TikTok clip of herself and two friends eating at the sushi restaurant Kissaki in nearby Water Mill.
In the social media post, the friends mouth the words: “I only have three things to say: God bless our troops, God bless America and gentlemen, start your engines!”
(That’s a quote that went viral in 2007 and was made famous by comedian Kevin James at Daytona International Speedway. The actor revisited it at a Mets game this month.)
Romy last made headlines when her father appeared singing and dancing in a series of videos on her social media feed in 2019 – his first foray back into the public eye after being fired from his high-profile anchor job on NBC’s “Today” after being accused of “inappropriate sexual conduct.”
Lauer and Roque married in October 1998.
She filed for divorce in 2006, citing “cruel and inhumane” behavior, but later withdrew the petition.
The couple then separated in 2017 when Lauer was faced with numerous allegations.
In July 2019, they filed for an amicable divorce, and their multimillion-dollar settlement included Roque getting their Hamptons horse farm in Water Mill.
Like Roque, Romy is an enthusiastic rider and has taken part in the Hampton Classic. Lauer and Roque also have sons together: Jack (23) and Thijs (17).
A spokesman for Matt Lauer had no immediate comment.
