In a new interview with Rock Feed BLACK VEIL BRIDES Frontman Andy Biersack talked about his band’s collaboration with legendary METALLICA And MÖTLEY CRÜE producer Bob Rock on the 2014 album “Black Veil Brides”. He said (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “See, that’s something bands can’t do because a lot of bands aren’t financially able to do that. We were very lucky because we said to our label, ‘We want to make a record that on every level, on a sonic level, is reproduced (METALLICA‘s self-titled album from 1991, also known as the ‘Black Album.’ … So much so that we wrote the entire record in the same room they wrote the record in, in Burbank, with bob in the room. We recorded all the drums in the same room they recorded in Burbank. bob. We used the snare drum that was used. On Kemper’s — that didn’t work out in the end; we ended up making our own deal — but we kept trying Kemper’s to steal the signal chain of their amplifiers and use it for a sound that ultimately didn’t sound good. But we even tried that. We flew to Vancouver to Small mountain (Studio) desk where they recorded this record. They built a booth that was identical to what I James (Hetfield, METALLICA frontman) on vocals, using the same speakers and handheld microphone. bob — and I don’t want to give that away; that could be a secret — bob gave me James‘s personal warm-up exercises that I do every day. To this day I have a CD with James Hetfield sings his warm-up exercises that he does every day, that I would do every day. I was still drinking, so I guess I made myself the same hot toddy drink that James done every day.”
Beer sack continued: “You have to understand, I was 23 at the time. So I was just everything. And when that was all done, we went into the same room at the same mixing desk at Henson (Studios) in LA and mixed everything in the same room. And the backing singers, we had the exact same backing singers that came in and did the harmonies. So, we did everything. And the record was a success for us. It’s a great record. I love it. We didn’t do the Black Album. Spoiler alert – that didn’t happen. But it was more about having the opportunity to do it and living out that dream. Every day we thought, ‘This is incredible,’ like wish fulfillment to the millionth degree.”
