Shafaq News/ Jordan’s King Abdullah II warned that the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip poses a huge threat to the stability of the Middle East as long as hostilities continue, the Royal Hashemite Court said in a statement on Sunday.
During a meeting with US Congressional staff at Husseiniyah Palace, King Abdullah stressed the need for international efforts to achieve an immediate and lasting ceasefire to prevent further escalation of the conflict in the region.
“As long as the war in Gaza continues, the region remains vulnerable to an escalation of the conflict, threatening its stability,” King Abdullah said, urging increased diplomatic efforts to de-escalate tensions.
The king reiterated Jordan’s stance, saying that the kingdom will not become a battlefield or endanger the security of its citizens. He also condemned attacks by Israeli extremist settlers on Palestinians in the West Bank and expressed concern about attacks on Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.
According to the statement, King Abdullah called for a political solution based on the two-state model, which he described as the only viable path to lasting peace and security for both Palestinians and Israelis.
King Abdullah expressed his appreciation for “the continued support from Washington,” while members of the US delegation recognized Jordan’s important role in promoting “peace and stability” in the region.
